Lynn Bambrick, daughter of Joan and John Bambrick, Mother to Matthew Jay Mulleray, Sister to Yvonne, Michael and Joseph, died at the age of 36 in Scarborough Ontario in 1989.
A very caring and sensitive soul. She was known for her beauty inside and out, a smile and laugh that was contagious.

Maybe best remembered at Woburn for his fundraising attempts at a stationery bike riding World Record with best friend Steve Wilson that raised a lot of money and publicity for Woburn CI.
Passed away in January 2009 after a battle with cancer. Kevin owned a successful accounting practice in Durham Region and loved his home in the country north of Oshawa. He left behind two step daughters Tammy and Jennifer from his first marriage. Also his wife Barb from his second marriage |

Montague (McPhail)
I sat beside Kerry for a few classes over the years and
I always remember her as one of the most outgoing attractive
and most of all kind-hearted people at Woburn. I was
truly sorry to hear (only a few years ago) of her tragic
passing which is a great loss to all who knew her.
I did have contact with her Mother (Beverly Jones) for
a couple of years but have since lost touch with her
and the clothing store at Yonge / Eglinton that was
run in her memory (Exemplar) appears to be closed now.
If anyone knows how to reach Ms. Jones (or Kerry's brother
Trevor) PLEASE e-mail me at holstead_young@sympatico.ca.
I need to speak (with either of them) on a specific
matter and would appreciate any assistance. Thank you

1963-1966 |
Colin Elliott was a teachers favourite at Woburn CI.
He was involved in everything that he could. He enjoyed
playing football for the Wildcats. The best time of
his life was spent at Woburn. Colin continued on to
Laurentian in Sudbury were he graduated with a B.A.
He used his degree to get a job in Life Insurance
as many did in those days. Colin was suddenly taken
from us by a heart attack that he suffered during
a workout. Colin was a great guy a perfect son and
a fantastic big brother he is missed each and every
day.”

Leavy |
Drew |
1986 |
We all have heroes in life, those who perform magnificent feats, those who challenge the worst and the roughest that life has to offer and those who smile in the face of adversity and, by doing so, allow the rest of us to smile as well. Drew Leavy was such a man and he died far, far too young.

Ken |

Yesterday
I lost a good friend. Ken raised at Brimorton and
Markham Rd had been a friend since Woburn. Ken was
always a fighter. He had Cystic Fibrosis and passed
away due to complications from it just before 5
yesterday. He had been in intensive care at St.
Mikes since the end of May. We had visited him last
month at his house in Scarborough. He had been ill
off and on for about 6 months with a severe chest
infection.
Ken has done many things in his life:
He survived with an illness that usually takes you
by the age of 21. He was in the Cdn Military (the
only person ever with cystic fibrosis to get in).
He was married to the former Kathy Broomhead (Woburn)
and had a beautiful daughter named Megan. He has
worked many years at City TV and been featured on
television as a spokesperson for cystic fibrosis.
Most importantly myself and many others could call
him a good friend. Goodbye Ken. Thanks for the memories.
Brad Abernethy class of 80
I
sat in several classes with Ken over my years at
Woburn and I always remember him as a very intelligent
and friendly person. I lost touch with him after
leaving Woburn and I was very sorry to hear of
his recent passing due to the illness he had battled
his entire life. l will always remember him as one
of the decent people at Woburn.
Rest
easy Ken...you may have had CF but from the quality
accomplishments you made it is obvious that CF
NEVER had you.

Hannah, Jim |
Principal |
My most vivid memory was the spontaneous standing ovation he received -- for over 5 minutes -- from all the students. As Mr J. D. Hannah stood up to make a speech at a year-end assembly, after we had just heard the announcement of his departure, I recall the students that stood and cheered the loudest and longest included those that were most often disciplined by J. D. throughout the year -- a testament to the level of respect we all shared.

"Keith Hubbard was a giant. Much of my love of
history was instilled by his teaching. I live in London
and regularly visit the continent - no matter where
I go, everytime I see a cathedral, I think of Keith
building the structure of vaulted roof, buttresses
and flying buttresses with us students! I also remember
feeling the shame of letting him down when he caught
me skipping his class. It was a foolish thing to do,
because he had a lot to teach me."

Geography |
Paul
Jury taught Geography at Woburn from the mid-1970s
until the 1980s and then again from the late ninties
until his retirement in 2002, He passed away July
2005.
I
was truly saddened to read that Mr. Paul Jury had
passed away...he was a terrific teacher who taught
Geography like he was showcasing the entire world.
He was always pleasant and outgoing, and he treated
all of his students like their success mattered to
him personally. He also had a great sense of humour,
even when he showed for class one day with a black
eye (after a car accident) and we gave him the nickname
"Crash" for awhile, which he happily accepted.
There was never any need for discipline in his classes,
the way he taught just made for a great learning experience
every time. Rest easy Sir...you were a fine educator
and you made a difference. - Todd Young |

Kostric,
Walter |
Boys Phys Ed |
I was saddened to hear of Walter kostric's passing
He was an outstanding phys Ed teacher coaching pole
vault and many specialized track and field events
he was a true gentleman and was part of Don Robb's
phys Ed department. I truly admired him from 1969
to 71 when I finshed my high school years. - R.Prince
I
echo the sentiments of Rick Prince. "Wally"
was a dedicated teacher, coach, and friend. While
he coached Olympic calibre athletes, he always had
time for those of us who wanted to participate in
whatever athletic pursuit - track & field, volleyball,
etc. Under his direction, Woburn became a perennial
Ontario Track & Field powerhouse in the 1970's!
... Scott McDonald (1969 - 1974)
Walter
Kostric was a true inspiration to all who had the
privilege of benefiting from his knowledge and passion
for track and field. I went to University in the U.S.
to play football and track. My track days ended quickly
as I realized there was something missing. I realized
that "Walter" was a big part of my inspiration
and that he was no longer around. I know I speak for
all who he coached, that he truly motivated us all.
Thanks Walter.

Mary Price came to Woburn as a secretary prior to its opening, helping to ready the school for its opening. Several years later, Mary became the Head Secretary and remained in that position until she retired. She was with Woburn for over 30 years. On October 11, 2001, Mary died at the Scarborough Hospital, Scarborough General Campus. She predeceased Harold, her husband of 53 years. Mary is dearly remembered by her three children, 9 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Many Woburn faculty and students attended Mary’s funeral proceedings and made a very difficult time much easier with their stories of her generous contributions to their lives as a valued, long-time member of the Woburn family.

Wilcox, John |
Dramatic Arts |
For two full generations John Wilcox was the voice of Woburn Collegiate. Through teaching Literature and Drama he gave students a love of the joy and mystery of the theatre. He gave them the skills to act, write, stage and design & manage sets for a cross section of the greatest plays that we have in our heritage.
But above all, John Wilcox was a teacher in the most profound and noble definitions of the word. He gave young men and women their own voices and the courage and wisdom to use them. He let them discover the scope of their skills and the freedom to apply them, in their own ways, for the rest of their lives. A true teacher understands that it is never the information or the skills that you give a student which defines success in our profession - it is the sense of dignity that you allow a child to discover and the sense of self esteem, even pride that they carry through their lives that defines you as having achieved the ultimate as a teacher. John was indeed such a man. - T Flahiff |
